NORTH IDAHO SPORTS AWARDS BANQUET: Munyer, Leonard top high school athletes

COEUR d’ALENE — Ziya Munyer of Lakeland and Garrett Leonard of Lake City were selected Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, in the 6A-5A classification at the 62nd North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame Awards Banquet held Saturday night at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.Munyer won the state triple jump title, and was a first-team all-state selection in volleyball. She will play volleyball next season at Weber State. Leonard went 44-0 in wrestling, capturing the state 6A title. He also was a first-team all-league linebacker on the Timberwolves' football team. He will play football next year at NAIA College of Idaho in Caldwell.Athletes, teams and coaches from 29 high schools and three colleges in North Idaho were honored at the banquet.The event, which also featured five new members inducted into the North Idaho Hall of Fame, drew approximately 850 people.The North Idaho Hall of Fame awards honor District I-II high school athletes, coaches and teams for their outstanding play, alon...
