Ellen Davis receives Perry O. Dye Service Award from GCBAA
Ellen Davis has been named the 2025 recipient of the Perry O. Dye Service Award by the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA), marking her three decades of leadership and advocacy within the golf course construction sector. The award honors Davis’ commitment to the GCBAA, its foundation and the broader industry, spotlighting her influence both behind the scenes and in the boardroom, according to the association.
Davis joined the GCBAA in 1994 and quickly became a cornerstone of the organization. She served on the board from 2006 to 2018, including roles as secretary (2008–2018) and vice president (2018), before transitioning to the GCBAA Foundation board and becoming its president in 2021. Her dedication extends to the foundation’s Sticks For Kids program, where she has been instrumental in supporting youth access to golf through volunteering and emceeing fundraising auctions.
As manager of SportZmix Solutions, a division of Faulks Brothers Construction, Davis has driven innovation in custom soil blending for golf courses and sports fields. In 2023, she led the acquisition of Kempker Greens Mix Blending.
Davis is also recognized for her efforts to promote inclusion in the industry. She was a featured panelist in the “Ladies Leading Turf” discussion at the 2020 GCSAA Conference and Trade Show and was named one of Golf Inc.’s “10 Gurus of Golf Course Construction” in 2021. These accolades reflect her influence on both the design and operational sides of the business.
“Ellen Davis exemplifies the values that Perry O. Dye held dear — selflessness, integrity and an unwavering commitment to service,” said Justin Apel, GCBAA executive director. “Her decades of leadership and her passion for growing the game through the foundation have helped shape the direction and culture of our organization. Under her guidance, SportZmix Solutions/Waupaca Sand and Solutions became a GCBAA charter member in 2015 — further reflecting her belief in supporting the association at every level. This award is a small token of our deep appreciation for all she has given. On a personal note, Ellen has been one of my mentors and friends throughout my time with the association and has been a true leader and role model for me and for our staff. We are better because of her.”
Davis’s recognition underscores the importance of leadership and mentorship in sustaining and growing the golf course construction industry, according to the association. Her work supports not only professionals but also youth and communities through initiatives like Sticks For Kids, aligning with broader industry trends toward inclusivity and community engagement.
Davis will be honored on Aug. 13 at the 2025 GCBAA Summer Meeting in Boston, Mass., during the GCBAA Award and Auction Dinner at the Westin Copley Place.
