Charlie Woods Makes Impressive Junior Golf Career History
Charlie Woods checked an important box in his budding golf career on Wednesday.
Woods, 16, won his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida earlier today. The son of PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods, Charlie carded a 6-under 66 to finish 15-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of his nearest competitor.
Ranked No. 606 in the AJGA heading into this week, Woods started things off with a 70 on Monday and posted a 65 Tuesday. His performance enabled him to beat out several highly-ranked adversaries, including Miles Russell, the No. 1-ranked AJGA competitor, who shot 8-under.
This was the teenager's fifth AJGA tournament. His previous best finish was a tie for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March.
"Welcome to the winners circle, Charlie," the official AJGA account tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Woods' breakthrough victory comes a couple of weeks after some golf fans expressed concern about his career trajectory.
Being the son of one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport has its perks and downfalls, but Tiger Woods has been adamant about Charlie having a life and resume of his own.
"Yes, he's my son. He's going to have my last name, and it's going to be part of his core. But I just want him to be just himself and be his own person. That's what we can only do," Tiger said. "I always encourage it, for him to carve his own name, carve his own path and have his own journey. I think he's doing a great job. In this day and age where everyone is basically media, with all the phones, being constantly filmed and constantly people watching, that's just part of his generation, and that's part of the world that he has to maneuver through."
