Algonquin On A District Hot Streak
Algonquin Golf Club’s Jamie Sheffield, Norm Toon, Mike Maher and Brett Moomey (Pro)
combined to shoot 14-under par to claim the Etzkorn Pro / 3 Senior Championship on
Wednesday, May 21st at the beautiful Country Club of St. Albans. The team event features a
golf professional and three St. Louis District Golf Association members who are at least 50
years old in a one-day, two-net best balls stroke-play event utilizing 80% of their handicap.
There is also a Pro only Event.
Brett Moomey won that event also..
The players teed it up starting at 7:30am on the Tavern Creek course. There were 38 teams
competing for the Championship this year. The last team teed off at 2:17pm. The weather was
sunny and cool but the winds were gusting all day long. Fighting those gusty winds all day, the
winners shot 14-under par. They were paced by their Pro, Brett Moomey, who had 6 birdies and
an eagle. The Algonquin team was tied for the lead going into the last hole. They knew they
had to shoot 1-under on the last hole to take the lead and they didn’t disappoint. They had 2
pars already posted on the hole when Brett stepped up and knocked in a 2 footer for the team
win and to also secure the win in the Pro only Event.
The team from Winghaven Country Club (Dustin Ashby, Didier Villard, Adam Tomichich and Jay
Roux(P)) were the leaders in the Clubhouse sitting at 13-under par until Mr Moomey made that
birdie put. Winghaven ended up finishing 2nd place 1 stroke back. Three teams (Forest Hills,
Meadowbrook and Bellerive) finished tied for 3rd 2 strokes back at 12-under par.
In the Pro Event (Stableford format), as mentioned above, Brett Moomey, placed 1st with 41
points. JD Auping, Bellerive and Devin Liberty, Westwood tied for 2nd 1 point back with 40
points. Joe Schwent, St. Albans, Zach Potts, Fox Run and Dan (Bummer) Barry finished tied for
4th with 37 points.
