Sports briefs: Tam golf duo making return trip to NorCals

Tam High golfers Ben Friedman and Hayden Thill are one step closer to punching their return tickets to the CIF State Championship after they both qualified for the NorCal Championships in Monday’s action.

Friedman shot a low round of 67 to win the individual championship at the North Coast Section Division I tournament at Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield. Thill was just two shots back at 69 as they both finished among the top four individual qualifiers. The NorCal Championship is scheduled for May 27 at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito.

Friedman and Thill tied for 17th at 2-over 73 in the 2024 State Championships.

Tam finished with a 379 team score Monday, as Max Berg and Elliot Dasovich both shot 80s and Shade Murray shot 83.

NCS champion De La Salle (358), along with Dougherty Valley (372), and Foothill (378) advanced to the NorCal Championship.

Redwood (391) was led by Brody Root’s 74, followed by Jack Mount and Cole O’Connell, who fired matching 77s, Jack Caldwell (79) and James Hamill (84).

Marin Catholic’s Theo Anderson (74), Marin Academy’s Charlie Hansen (79), and Marin Catholic’s Finn Henne (81) were also in action on Monday.
