Golf Fans in Disbelief After PGA Championship Move

0 1

Earlier in the week heavy rains caused a number of mud balls in the first round of the PGA Championship for golfers like Scottie Scheffler who was less than pleased with one particular mud ball that led to a double bogey.

“I understand how a golf purist would be, ‘Oh, play it as it lies,’” Scheffler said. “But I don't think they understand what it's like literally working your entire life to learn how to hit a golf ball and control it and hit shots and control distance, and all of a sudden due to a rules decision that is completely taken away from us by chance.

“In golf, there's enough luck throughout a 72-hole tournament that I don't think the story should be whether or not the ball is played up or down. When I look at golf tournaments, I want the purest, fairest test of golf, and in my opinion, maybe the ball today should have been played up.”

Poor weather wasn't done rearing its ugly head, though. The third round of the tournament was set to tee of at 8:15 a.m. ET, but right before the first group took to the tee heavy storms rolled through the area pushing tee times back.

With a lengthy delay, the PGA of America decided to move the third round to threesomes with groups going off both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Fans couldn't believe the decision.

"This is laughable. I’m 15 minutes from Quail. Storms are already moved through. Barely misting here. Literally all they had to do was delay the twosomes and start them at 930. What?" one fan said.

"That’s an utter disgrace," added another.

"The weather is clearing in 30 mins tops. This has to be informed by TV more than anything," offered a third.

The first group will tee off at 11:43 a.m. ET.
