Newsletter | April 2025
Good day fellow Members of the Milnerton GC,
Firstly, I would like to thank Billy O’Brien and his fellow Committee members for their service this past year.
Being on the committee is a thankless task, and with an all-new incoming committee, it’s going to be a tough to get into the groove and to get going. Although I have no doubt we will be running smoothly in no time.
Your New Committee Members are:
- Captain: Peter Waison
- Vice-Captain: Alan Pearson – Handicaps / Food & Beverage
- Treasurer: Weyers Jansen Van Rensburg
- Lorette Hegie: House & Surrounds / Centenary Planning
- Justin De Allende: Food & Beverage / Centenary Planning
- Dwain Heldsinger: Golf Course / Sunset Links & Bossa Liaison
- Brent Viljoen: Turf Equipment / Centenary Planning & Preparation / Marketing / Advertising and Sponsorship
- Quinten Coetzer: Golf / Leagues / New Member Applications
Our Centenary Year Festival week will be in November from the 3rd to the 8th.
We as the New Committee have a lot to learn in the upcoming months. Our priority will of course be to make the Centenary a success. As I write this, Plans for this event are moving full steam ahead.
In the coming weeks, the new water pipeline between the 13th and the 17th holes will be installed and will take approximately 2 months to complete.
Harry Solomon league will be starting in May.
Congratulations to the New Ladies Captain Karien Van Rooyen.
Other than that, I don’t have much to report on just yet, other than the qualities of a Great Member below:
The qualities of a great member:
A very erudite member of this wonderful community of ours send me this which I thought was very interesting!
You want to be a good club member, so what do you do? Here are ten qualities of a great club member:
- Contribute Your Unique Skills – You all came together with a common interest or passion. But each of you also has unique skills and backgrounds. Are you a finance person? Have excellent webmaster skills? Utilising your skills can also significantly help the Club.
- Be Positive – Always have the betterment of the Club in mind. When you question something, do it towards improvement or change. Nobody likes a complainer. Remember, if members push collectively in a positive direction, others will gladly join in; offer positive feedback.
- Respect – Respect the mission of the Club. Respect the officers (remember they are probably volunteers contributing their talents and unique skills). Respect the privacy of members. Everyone joined the Club for a reason which might not be yours.
- Communicate with Confidence – Great team players communicate their ideas honestly and clearly and respect others’ views and opinions on the team. Clear, effective communication done constructively and respectfully is the key to getting heard.
- Trust by Verify – We continuously see the news on the latest club issues. As a club member, you do have a responsibility to understand and question and not repeat rumours. Your opinion is that: just an opinion. Remember you have not walked in another’s shoes.
- Positively Build your Club’s Community – Create a welcoming club. Members are typically on different journeys with their skills or desires. Help these club members grow and advance in the Club. Be a bridging vs. an exclusive Community.
- Teach – Grow the members’ skills. Understand the technical side of your sport. Use your unique talent, actively helping the membership.
- Embrace all your Stakeholders – Understand how your Club can mutually benefit and contribute, to your well-being, the local community, close neighbours, or a broader group or organisation. Be a good citizen, and things will be much easier.
- Consistent and Reliable – Displaying genuine commitment and reliability is a great way to drive your Club forward. Create positive relationships within your Club and do this consistently.
- Reliable Volunteer – Don’t be the volunteer that never volunteers! They volunteer in name but never show up. When you volunteer, do more than asked, adapt quickly and easily, come with a 110% commitment to getting things done. Remember, you are either part of the problem or the solution, don’t be a problem.
Embrace these attributes, and there is no doubt that your Club will move forward.
This is just something our Club Should be.
Thank you,
Peter Waison
Your Captain

Monthly Golf Fixtures & Results
From the Lady Captain
Hello All
Another sad start to my Newsletter on the passing of our dearest Lady Member, Marie Junger. Marie will be sorely missed. She was part of the Ladies for many many years and later with the Seniors. We wish Rolf well at this sad time of losing his life partner.
Sadly, this will be my last Newsletter as I am stepping aside as Captain for the coming year. Our Travel itinerary for this year will not make it right to stand in a position if I am absent.
The last year and a bit was an exciting time along with its challenges, but I honestly enjoyed being of Service to the Ladies of the Milnerton Golf Club. We had some fun events.
I wish the new Committee and the incoming Lady Captain all the very best for the rest of this year. I will be around to be of any assistance or help & advise.
We wish the following Ladies a very Happy & Blessed Birthday in May:
- 7th May – Denise Liang
- 12th May – Marijke Rietveld
- 25th May – Karen Robey
- 27th May – Bettye Walker
The Match Play has been done and the rounds will resume shortly. This will be put on the Social WhatsApp group.
This year there will be cut off time for each of the divisions.
Those that cannot make the round due to various reasons will unfortunately forfeit the game and the opponent goes through to the next round.
All the best to all the players. There are some tough games to be played.
May’s Calendar for you to diarize for the forthcoming events:
- 2-5 May – Interclub (Milnerton not represented this year)
- 6th May – Medal & Putting
- 13th May – League / Single Erinvale
- 16th May – WPSWGS @ Erinvale
- 20th May – Match Play
- 27th May – 3 Ball Alliance – YellowBall
- 24 – 28 May – WPSWGS Nationals
That’s me over and out completely. Thank you everyone for your Love, Patience & Kindness during my Captaincy. It was truly a Blessing for me.

Lady Captain 2024
From the Driving Range
With another season behind us, let’s have a look at where we started.
Where we are now.
The Range has come a long way. And it is a pleasure to hit from. The range will be going through its seasonal price change from the 1st of May.
- Member Bucket – R30 for 30 Balls
- Affiliated Bucket – R40 for 30 Balls
- Visitor Bucket – R50 for 30 Balls
The range will also be opening a membership where you can sign up for 12 months and have a limited number of balls each month at a great discount. This hopefully encourages some good practice through the winter to be ready for next season.
The range will be going into winter times now when we will operate from 8am – 5pm (Mon–Sat) and then 8am – 4pm (Sunday and Public holidays).
Hope to see you out there!
Regards

Committee | Milnerton Golf Club
Trials for Harry Solomon have started, our 1st game is a bye on the 17th of May. However the 1st weeks trials seem to have gone very well with some exceptional scores from the Pretorius brothers, might ask to help out at Premier.
Went out to watch some of the top 16 lads play against each other in match play. Nice to see the youngsters pull through on some wins. Brett van Rooyen beating Weyers our current 2025 club champ 3&2 was a great game to watch. Kyle Lee beating Ryan 6&4 unbelievable golf from him today.
As for the rest of the golf/league news. Shaun Buchanan will be assisting myself on the sub-committee for leagues, reason behind this decision is I feel the golfers should concentrate on golf and let management concentrate on managing the golf. Shaun has years of experience behind him and we could only benefit from his input.
The competitions for May have been approved just waiting on the final decision regarding the monthly Par 3 competition which will be held at the end of every month, t.b.c., I will discuss this with Alan,Weyers & Dwayne and try and find a profitable solution for this as I feel it could benefit the club and many ways.
Have a great month ahead.
Energy and persistence conquer all things
