Vandegrift looking to defend UIL 6A girls golf title, tied for lead after Day 1

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Vandegrift is tied for the team lead, and there are a handful of Central Texas golfers near the top of the leaderboard after Day 1 of the UIL 6A girls golf championships Monday at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.

The defending state champion Vipers and Coppell, who tied for third last year, sit atop the team leaderboard at 14-over-par 302. Westlake is in third at 21-over, followed by Lewisville Flower Mound at 23-over and Houston Memorial at 24-over. Lake Travis is in seventh at 32-over.

Westlake junior Isabel Emanuels shot a 1-under 71 in her first round and sits two shots off the lead in second heading into Tuesday's final round. She finished last year's state tournament tied for third. Vandegrift sophomore Michaela Partridge is tied for third at 1-over, and her teammate, freshman Tiffany Wong, is tied for fifth at 2-over.

Westlake sophomore Ava Osborne, Lake Travis senior Grace Hall and Vandegrift sophomore Addison Bandelier are part of a 6-player group tied for seventh at 3-over.

Coppell junior Alicia Bellendir is the leader at 3-under.

In Class 5A at Legacy Hills GC in Georgetown, San Antonio Alamo Heights has an 8-shot lead over Frisco Centennial. Lampasas is in third at the 4A championships at Legends GC in Kingsland. Odessa Compass Academy leads the 3A tournament at Jimmy Clay GC in Austin, Mason is in front in the 2A tournament at Lions Municipal in Austin and Utopia leads the 1A tournament at Crystal Falls GC in Leander.

The boys UIL golf tournaments are set for May 5-6 at the same courses
