Golf Legend Withdraws From the Masters Days Before Tournament
When the 2025 Masters tournament tees off on Thursday, April 10, two legendary golfers won't be competing.
15-time major champion Tiger Woods revealed in March that he suffered a torn Achilles, effectively ending his 2025 season before it even started. "As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured. This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon," he said in a statement at the time.
Woods later teased fans with an April Fools' Day joke suggesting he made a miraculous recovery and would be playing in the event. Unfortunately for golf fans, he's not the only legendary figure missing this year's tournament.
Vijay Singh, winner of the 2000 Masters, announced this week that he suffered an injury and won't be playing this year. "Due to injury, Vijay Singh has informed the Competition Committees he will not play in the 2025 Masters Tournament," the Masters announced.

Singh and Woods weren't the only ones with big news before the Masters either. Two-time green jacket winner Bernhard Langer revealed the 2025 Masters will be his final time around Augusta National - at least competitively.
"It's very emotional," Langer, 67, said in an interview on April 7. "You can tell already my voice is breaking a bit. Just realizing it's going to be my last competitive Masters after, you know, four decades... it's going to be bittersweet. I knew it was time to call it quits as a player — I wanted to do it last year but I couldn't with my achilles surgery."
The Masters tees off on April 10.
