GCSAA names Joshua Tapp as director of environmental programs

0 5

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) has named Joshua Tapp its new director of environmental programs. According to GCSAA, this signifies a renewed focus on sustainability. Tapp, a veteran environmental professional with more than 20 years of experience at the EPA, will spearhead GCSAA’s efforts to promote environmentally responsible practices across the industry.

The GCSAA adds that Tapp’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the golf industry, which faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices. His background in environmental science and regulatory affairs positions him to bridge the gap between environmental concerns and the practical needs of golf course superintendents.

“Josh is a proven leader and strong communicator who is able to engage many different stakeholders and points of view,” said Kevin P. Sunderman, CGCS, GCSAA chief operating officer.

Tapp’s role will include:

  • Directing environmental and research programs
  • Assisting members with environmental matters
  • Promoting Best Management Practices implementation
  • Supporting advocacy efforts with regulators and environmental groups

Tapp’s expertise is expected to enhance GCSAA’s environmental programming and potentially influence industry standards and practices.

“I am excited to join such a strong team as GCSAA,” Tapp said. “I know together we can move the needle on sustainability while maintaining a facility’s bottom line and the quality experience golfers expect.”

Tapp will begin his tenure on March 26, and the GCSAA adds that his success could set new benchmarks for sustainability in management, balancing environmental stewardship with the sport’s traditions and economic realities.
