Carolina GCSA honors Pinehurst’s Bob Farren with Distinguished Service Award
Bob Farren, CGCS, director of golf course management at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, is set to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Carolina GCSA. This prestigious honor, announced at the Southeast Region Conference, recognizes Farren’s significant contributions to the golf industry.
Farren’s journey in golf course maintenance began in 1979, joining Pinehurst three years later. His leadership extends beyond the resort, having served as president of the Carolinas GCSA in 1995. Farren’s expertise has been instrumental in restoring Pinehurst’s prominence, culminating in its designation as the USGA‘s first “anchor site” for the U.S. Open Championship.
“Bob Farren has been a beacon for our profession for longer than many of our members have been alive. For decades, he has been a leader at his facility, across our region, and on the national stage. We all walk a little taller in our roles because of his efforts and his example,” said Alex Tolbert, Carolinas GCSA president and superintendent at Orangeburg Country Club.
Under Farren’s stewardship, Pinehurst No. 2 hosted the 2024 U.S. Open and is slated to host again in 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047. Additionally, the U.S. Women’s Open will return to Pinehurst in 2029.
The Distinguished Service Award will be presented at the Carolinas GCSA’s annual Conference and Trade Show in Myrtle Beach, S.C., this November, celebrating Farren’s legacy.
