‘Time to hang it up…’ – Fans fear Tiger Woods, 49, may have to RETIRE after shock statement confirms Achilles surgery
TIGER WOODS’ legendary career has been left hanging in the balance after he underwent Achilles surgery.
The 15-time Major champion, 49, confirmed the devastating news in a statement posted online.
Woods has not featured on the PGA Tour since last July.
Writing on social media, he confirmed: “As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.
“This morning, Dr Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Pal Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.
“‘The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recover,’ added Dr Stucken.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
Woods had planned to make his PGA Tour return at the Genesis Invitational in February.
He went on to pull out, however, following the sad death of his mother Kultida, aged 81.
The American did play at the Seminole Pro-Member event earlier this month.
Due to the venue’s famous exclusivity and privacy, no footage exists of his appearance.
Woods underwent back surgery last September.
There is no timeline on his return from this latest setback.
The former world No1 had been expected to compete at the Masters in Augusta next month.
Fans have expressed concerns about the golf legend on social media.
One wrote: “I’m not usually one to jump on this train, but seriously might be time to hang it up.”
While a second commented: “He just can’t catch a break!”
Another added: “Heartbroken.”
