Danang, Vietnam, March 9: Chen Xingtong and Inez Ng ended their campaign at this week’s Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship (WAAP) in tied-23rd place at the Hoiana Shores Golf Club.
16-year-old Chen, mixed four bogeys and four birdies for a final round even-par-71 while Ng traded four birdies against two bogeys for a 69.
Their matching four-day total of four-under-par 280 saw them finish 14 shots back of Jeneath Wong, who became the first Malaysian to win the championship after she closed with a 68 for a winning 266 total.
Developed by the APGC and The R&A to nurture talent and provide a pathway for the region’s elite women amateurs to the international stage, the WAAP provides the champion with life-changing opportunities.
With her victory, Wong will be invited to compete in three of this year’s major championships – the AIG Women’s Open, Amundi Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship – as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, the 122nd Women’s Amateur Championship and, by tradition, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Ends.
