Danang, Vietnam, March 6: Inez Ng led Team Singapore’s challenge at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) championship by signing for an opening two-under-par 69 at Vietnam’s Hoiana Shores Golf Club on Thursday.
The 21-year-old, a member of the Singapore Golf Association national squad, traded six birdies against two bogeys and a double-bogey to end day one of the competition in tied-20th place – five shots back of South Korea’s Park Seo-jin, who leads on her own with her 64.
Chen Xingtong carded a 70 to tie for 26th place while Hailey Loh is a further shot back in tied-35th place. 13-year-old Sydnie Ng, the youngest Singaporean in the Championship, returned with a 74 for a share of 57th place.
The winner on Sunday will be invited to compete in three of this year’s major championships – the AIG Women’s Open, Amundi Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship – as well as the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, the 122nd Women’s Amateur Championship and, by tradition, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Ends.
