Golf Course Conditions – February 2025
Weather & Course Maintenance
January brought extreme weather, but we were prepared and had no issues. February is shaping up to bring warmer temperatures (highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s-50s). With that, we will begin spring preemergent applications to manage broadleaf weeds and poa annua. This will be applied in phases:
- Phase 1: Fairways, Tees, & Surrounds
- Phase 2: Rough areas
These applications do not include fertilizer to prevent Bermuda grass from waking too soon and being damaged by an early March frost.
Golf Equipment Maintenance
Behind the scenes, all golf course equipment is being serviced to ensure peak performance, including:
- Reel grinding (sharpening mower blades)
- Checking roller bearings
- Oil and filter servicing
Reel mowers work like scissors, and keeping them sharp prevents turf damage and reduces the risk of disease. This sharpening process happens throughout the year, but winter is an ideal time for full maintenance checks.
Upcoming Course Projects (March 2025)
🏌️ Hole #7: Reshaping and reworking the banks to improve appearance and prevent erosion.
🏌️ Hole #2: Expanding the tee box to one large tee area (135 to 220 yards), creating more flexibility for tee marker placement.
