Jacob Blair is the 2024 Turf Post of the Year winner
The results of Golfdom’s Turf Post of the Year poll are in! Congratulations to the winner, Jacob Blair, CGCS, general manager and director of agronomy at Oldham County Country Club, La Grange, Ky.
Throughout 2024, Golfdom — in partnership with Syngenta — recognized posts in each month’s issue. Blair’s post was featured in the August 2024 issue of Golfdom and took home the win after earning a whopping 82 percent of the vote and thus claiming the title of Turf Post of the Year for 2024.
Reflecting on that day, Blair says he just had the urge to get out on the course.
“It was a beautiful late July morning in Kentucky—clear, calm and unseasonably mild,” he says. “The kind of morning that practically begs you to step outside. Feeling the urge to hit a few shots, I decided to walk nine holes and get my blood flowing to start the day.”
Blair says he appreciated the opportunity to clear his head and reconnect with the game he loves.
“This wasn’t about grinding or looking for flaws,” he says. “Instead, I focused on the game itself, each shot taken with intention, free from the relentless scrutiny that often accompanies my role. After all, superintendents are notoriously their own toughest critics.”
The Lagrange resident encourages supers to take a step back and to “just be a golfer” every once in a while.
“This round was a reminder that superintendents and their crews need to prioritize unwinding and making time for themselves, even in the chaos of the golf season,” he says. “Life doesn’t have to be put on hold just because work is demanding. Taking a step back to recharge can help you avoid burnout and keep your passion alive. The grass will still be there tomorrow.”
