0 0

The Greystones Senior Cup team achieved a 4.5 to a 0.5 victory over Blainroe in the first league match of the Darcy Trophy.

Singles Matches:
The day began with Jamie Anderson taking to the course. Despite losing the opening hole, Jamie fought back, and he levelled the match with a win on the 3rd hole but found himself trailing again after the 4th. A crucial win on the 7th brought him back to level. From there, Jamie held steady, halving holes 8 through 16. A brilliant win on the 17th put him 1-up, and a composed halve on the 18th secured his victory, setting the tone for the team.

Alan Condron was next to tee off. Alan opened with a win on the 1st hole, maintaining his lead through consistent halved holes up to the 7th. Blainroe fought back with a win on the 8th, but Alan quickly responded with a victory on the 9th to turn the front nine all square. The back nine saw both players trading blows, with Blainroe winning the 12th and 15th. However, Alan’s clutch win on the 17th and a half on the 18th ensured the match finished level, earning a valuable half-point for Greystones.

In the third singles match, Shane O’Connor delivered another point for Greystones. After halving the first five holes, Shane broke the deadlock with wins on the 6th and 9th to take a commanding 2-up lead into the back nine. He continued to dominate, winning three more holes in quick succession. Shane closed out his match on the 15th with a 5&3 victory.

Foursomes Matches:
Both pairings proved to be a formidable force for Greystones. Dylan Holmes and Milo Doyle were in a battle early, going 1 down through the first three holes. However, the duo rallied, winning three of the next six holes to turn the match around. Heading into the back nine 2-up, with halves at the 10th and 11th before Blainroe reduced the margin by winning the 12th to pull the match back to 1-up, undeterred, Dylan and Milo found another gear, securing wins on the 13th, 14th, and 16th to clinch a dominant 4&2 victory.

The final match saw David Byrne and Adam Packman. After halving the opening two holes, they struck first with a win on the 3rd hole and extended their lead by taking the 7th hole. Holding a 2-up advantage at the turn, the pair played error-free golf on the back nine, securing victories on the 12th and 13th holes to go 4-up. With their opponents facing a near-impossible task, David and Adam halved the 14th and 15th to close out a convincing 4&3 win.

A great performance from all the team; well done to all players and management.

Looking Ahead:
The next match for the team is this Sunday at home against Dun Laoghaire. The first tee is at 8 am. All support is welcome.
