PGA Tour send update to players over Tiger Woods golf event as wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles

0 10

THE PGA are still mulling over moving the Genesis Invitational in the wake of the deadly Los Angeles fires.

The tournament – which is hosted by golf icon Tiger Woods – is scheduled to take place at the famous Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades from February 13-16.

But the plush neighbourhood has been engulfed in flames for the last few days.

Five of the 16 reported deaths from the raging infernos have tragically occurred in the Palisades.

Brave firefighters are still struggling to quell the raging fires in the Palisades and other areas of LA County.

But the PGA have yet to make a decision on next month’s tournament.

That’s due to the fact the Riviera Country Club has luckily avoided the ferocious flames.

It’s claimed, however, the PGA have reached out to players scheduled to participate in the competition.

The LA Times claim the PGA have told players they’re closely “monitoring the devastating fires in the Los Angeles County”.

An excerpt of a memo read: “At this point, it is premature to discuss the potential impact on the Genesis Invitational.

“Although the Riviera Country Club has not been directly affected by the fires.

“Our immediate concern is the health and welfare of those in the affected communities, including all our members who have ties to Southern California.”

Woods has yet to publicly comment on the possibility of the tournament being moved from Riviera.

The Riviera Country Club, of course, has a special place in the 49-year-old’s heart.

It was the venue for the golf icon’s first PGA Tour event, which he played in as a 16-year-old high-schooler way back in 1992.
