Mach 1 Ultradwarf Bermudagrass launches new website

0 5

Mach 1 Ultradwarf Bermuda, a greens-grade bermudagrass for putting greens, now has a website. Launched in late August of this year, the website features comparative research data, an interactive map and a list of golf courses planted with Mach 1, as well as agronomic guidelines for ultradwarf greens management.

“We all know how difficult it is to select the right greens grass for golf course construction and renovations,” said Hank Kerfoot, president of Modern Turf, exclusive producers of Mach 1 Ultradward Bermuda in the U.S. Mach 1 is represented outside of the U.S. by Atlas Turf International.

According to the company, Mach 1 Ultradwarf Bermudagrass features:

  • A dense and smooth putting surface comparable to bentgrass for ball roll and trueness.
  • Faster growing time for quick turnaround on golf course renovations.
  • The height of the cut bench is as low as .070 inches for tournament-ready greens, and the effective height of the cut in the field is as low as .040 inches.
  • It uses 10 to 25 percent less nitrogen fertilizer than other bermudagrasses tested.
  • Efficient uptake of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and fertilizers at lower rates.
  • Earlier spring green-up. Recent testing at the University of Tennessee shows Mach 1 to green up before TifEagle with Champion two weeks behind TifEagle.
  • Better shade tolerance than TifEagle, according to the company.

Mach 1 is a bermudagrass hybrid cultivar, (Cynodon dactylon and Cynodon transvaalensis). It is taxonomically identified as Cynodonxmagennis ii. It may be planted on golf greens and golf course tees.

Former superintendent Rod Lingle, CGCS, developed Mach 1 Ultradwarf and is the originator of the Lingle System of ultradwarf bermudagrass management.
