Sports briefs: Liu leads Branson golf to pair of season-opening wins

Elizabeth Liu carded the low round at Meadow Club on Monday to lead the Branson School girls golf team to a pair of season-opening wins against Archie Williams and Terra Linda.

Liu, the two-time defending MCAL golfer of the year, shot a 39 to comfortably lead all scorers. Branson teammate Sidney Kawahara followed with a 48 as the Bulls (2-0) shot a 189 to beat the Peregrine Falcons (244) and the Trojans (255).

Elke Osweiler paced Archie Williams (1-1) with a 57 and Mirabelle Davis shot a 58. TL (0-2) was led by Mia Schlotman’s 57.

Girls tennis

Terra Linda secured wins in three of the four singles matches en route to a 5-2 win against San Domenico on Monday. Jamie Schmidt, Chloe Sason and Mimi Kemp picked up wins for TL at the Nos. 2-4 sports, respectively.

San Domenico was led by No. 1 singles player Carly Amborn, who defeated Kylie Lee, 6-2, 6-0.

Tennis

The Hal Wagner Memorial Doubles Open, now in its 43rd year of existence, starts on Friday and runs through Sept. 2 at Rafael Racquet Club in San Rafael.

The tournament features 235 players across 15 different competitions with men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles events across five different levels (3.0, 3.5, 4-0, 4.5, and combo).

Hall of Fame

The Redwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for athletes, coaches, special recognition, and team categories. Athletes must have graduated in 2010 or before and participated in any sports activity while at Redwood.
