Every feature and component of the courses has been reimagined by Jackson Kahn Design. Enhancements include:

  • Tee-to-green layout changes with fair challenges for all levels of play.
  • New greens ranging from 3,400 to 11,000-plus square feet.
  • Sand-soil mixtures for optimized moisture characteristics and drainage.
  • State-of-the-art irrigation system conversion to two-wire system with HDPE piping.
  • Bunker lining system to eliminate washouts, soil contamination and plugged ball lies.
  • Tees, fairways and roughs planted with premium TifTuf bermudagrass.

“The transformation is unparalleled,” Larry Barefield, senior project manager of Landscapes Unlimited, said. “Between the ambitious vision of and financial commitment of North Ranch’s membership and dedication from club president Clyde Clifford, treasurer Stan Speer and general manager Jenny Duce, along with the creativity of Jackson Kahn Design and the expertise of our construction team, the club has mightily elevated itself for current and future generations to enjoy.”

The major project coincides with the 50-year anniversary of the Valley and Oaks nines designed by Ted Robinson, Sr., along with his son, Ted Robinson, Jr., they brought the third nine at North Ranch, the Lakes, to life in 1989.

North Ranch was developed as a partnership between Prudential Insurance and the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company, which purchased the ranch in 1962. Previously, the property was owned by publishing magnate William Randoph Hearst, preceded by the land North Ranch occupies being among California’s first Mexican land grants in 1795.
