Fred Daly All Ireland Champions

0 2

Greystones Golf Club are Fred Daly All Ireland Champions.

Royal Portrush were the opponents again in a rerun of last years final. Last year ended in heartbreak but this time the result went Greystones way.

First out was Will O’Riordan who was all square after 6 holes and then found himself one down at the turn.

Next up was Dylan Holmes and he took control of the match early on. Four up through 5, the Portrush opposition pulled one back on 7. Still Dylan was 3 up after 9.

Jamie Anderson was next on the tee box. Jamie was in a tight battle were the lead changed hands several times. He found himself one up after 4 holes and was still one up heading for the back 9.

Toby Murphy came next and this was another tight match. Toby established a two hole lead early on after 3 holes. After an exchange of holes Toby was also one up heading for the last 9 holes.

Milo Doyle was last out and he also got into an early lead and was 1 up after 4 and remained one up after 9.

Onto the back nine and Will lost ten to go 2 down, however he fought back with wins on 11 & 12 to be all square. His Portrush opponent then won 3 of the next 4 to run out 3 & 2 winner. One nil to Portrush.

Dylan kept his foot on the accelerator into the back nine and won 11,12 & 14 with no reply from his opponent. A 6 & 4 win and it was one all.

Jamie was in a right battle. Losing 10 to return to all square was followed with two halved holes. Jamie then found 6th gear and won 13,14 & 15 and despite his opponent winning 16 a half on 17 was enough to run out 2 & 1 winners. Two one Greystones.

Milo was pegged back to all square after 11. He got his nose in front again on 12 and his opponent swiftly brought it back to level again on 14. Milo again went ahead on 15. One up with three to play.

Toby meanwhile had been establishing a three hole lead by winning 11 & 12. Portrush again fought back winning the 13th. Toby again went 3 up on 14. Again his opponent pulled one back on 15. However Toby was not going to be denied and two halves on 16 & 17 gave him a 2 & 1 win and the third point Greystones required to finally get their hands on the Fred Daly All Ireland Pennant.

At this point Milo was called in while he was one up after 16 holes

Congratulations to Pete Anderson and all his assistants and of course special thanks to all the players who have participated not just this year but in the journey to get to this achievement. Enjoy the celebrations!!!
