GOLF fans have hit out at Donald Trump for the outrageous cost of playing at his Turnberry golf course.

The Scottish course is famed for hosting four Open Championships but has been hit with new fees.

It costs £1,000 to play 18 holes at the Ailsa Course[/caption]

People will have to dig deep into their pockets to pay £1,000 in order to play the full 18 holes, which is £55 per hole.

If they are willing to tee off after 1pm, then the price drops down to £545 to play around the Ailsa course.

The course is 6,474 yards long and was the host of the 1977 duel between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus.

It was redesigned in 2016 by architect Martin Ebert and cost £200million, two years after Trump bought the course.

However, golfers have been left seething over the price hikes and have taken to social media to complain.

One golfer complained: “£1,000 for 18 holes. That’s over £55 per hole. Insanity.”

A second posted: “Glad I’ve played it twice already. Won’t be a third time.”

A third wrote: “Maybe an ‘open’ course should be open to all, not just the super-rich.

“Maybe a ceiling price, appreciate will be expensive but this is just exclusive, and not in a good way.”

A fourth commented: “In the UK, where the weather can be horrendous in the height of ‘summer’, it’s really hard to justify anything north of the £150-200.

“And even at those prices, they should be the top courses that pros play at etc.”

A fifth said: “Ooft. I played it just after it reopened in 2016 and it was ‘only’ £250.”

Another added: “No golf course on the planet is worth even half that price.

“But enough mugs with more money than sense will pay it, thereby giving the course owners justification to keep charging these prices.”

The second Open to be held at the course was in 1986 when Aussie golfer Greg Norman won by five shots.

Eight years later, Nick Price from Zimbabwe edged out Jesper Parnevik by a single shot.

The last Open to feature at the course was in 2009 and was won by Steward Cink who claimed victory after a playoff against Tom Watson
