The Open Championship eliminates the most revolting tradition in golf
Round 1 of the Open Championship reminded us why it is one of the best majors each year — there are no obnoxious tee shot sounds.

Round one of the 152nd Open Championship started early this morning on the East Coast. Some stayed up throughout the night to watch while others set their alarm clocks to unfathomable times.
It is worth it because breakfast golf is hard to beat. The broadcast also felt quiet this morning until I remembered why I liked the Open so much. Not only is the announcing better, but the oldest major does not tolerate shenanigans.
Brew a pot of coffee, grab some breakfast, and settle in as we get you ready for the oldest major championship week.
No noise nonsense at The Open

There are no “mashed potatoes,” “baba booyee,” “Oh, yeah’s,” and whatever else gets screamed during PGA Tour events.
This American tradition has no place in the homeland of golf or any of the Open Championships. If someone does yell those things, it is rare.
Golf is taken seriously in this area of the world, so hearing fans yell out these ridiculous statements after a player hits the ball is not something the Europeans do.
It makes for a much better golf tournament and it makes the true golf fan realize how silly those sound.
These words are a bother and unacceptable. While many will disagree with me on this, let me appreciate one of the few weeks the Americans did not ruin broadcast time with their random words.
Actually getting to hear the ball hit the club and the player-caddie interactions will give anyone goosebumps.
There is a sense of “must mute the mic” moments throughout the PGA Tour schedule because no one knows what these fans will say. Allowing golf to be golf is just one of the reasons why the Open is at the top with The Masters for the best major championships.
What appeared funny at first now is extremely annoying and juvenile. So, getting a couple of times a year to hear actual golf on the broadcast is a nice break.
