PGA Championship second round DELAYED after fatal accident near Valhalla golf course
THE start of the second round of the PGA Championship has been delayed after a man was killed in a road accident outside Valhalla Golf Club.
Louisville police say a man was hit and killed by a shuttle bus outside the course this morning, leading them to close the road leading to the venue.
The PGA initially offered an update that the second round would be delayed because of a “serious accident”.
It has now been announced that players will tee off in Louisville at 8:35am US time.
Tee times have been pushed back an hour and 20 minutes from their original published time due to the earlier fatal accident.
That will be 1:35pm in the UK.
The Louisville Metro Police Department offered an update with the following statement.
They said: “About 5:00 ET this morning, the LMPD responded to a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a bus.
“Our preliminary investigation found that an adult male pedestrian was crossing Shelbyville Roadsouth to north when he was struck by a shuttle bus that was travelling eastbound in the compulsory centre lane dedicated for buses.
“As a result, the pedestrian received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
“The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.”
In related news to the incident, world no1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested for attempting to drive past the police cordon put in place after the accident.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Scheffler was screamed at by police to stop his car.
After stepping out of his vehicle, the officer then shoved him against the car and placed him in handcuffs, before shoving him in the back of a police car.
It is believed the incident took place following a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club.
