BAILEY BREEZES INTO LEAD AFTER ROUND TWO AT RAMSIDE
England’s Lianna Bailey fired an incredible 67 (-6) to breeze into the lead after the second round of the Link Series at Ramside Hall.
The 26-year-old got off to a hot start rolling in a birdie on the first. After a bogey on the fourth Bailey fired up the flatstick again to card birdies on five and seven followed by a bogey on nine.
At the turn, Bailey found consistency in her game to card a further six birdies and one bogey to finish on a total eight-under-par.
Speaking about her second day, Bailey said: “I’m feeling good, I played solid today and made a few putts. I didn’t really make any mistakes that were too costly.
“I’m enjoying being on home soil this week, I enjoy the small comforts of getting to go to supermarkets that we know or having familiar TV and things like that.”
This round mark’s Bailey’s lowest ever round at a LETAS tournament since becoming a member, her previous being 71 yet she thinks playing on a course she knows has helped.
“I played the course last year in the same tournament, so I know it well. It’s a nice course and I enjoy it.”
It’s been a steady season for the rookie, who is currently sixth on the LETAS rookie of the year list and she’s aware it’s still a long way to go.
“We still have 18 holes to go so I will try not to get too ahead of myself and just keep playing one shot at a time and just see where we are at the end of tomorrow.
“I am excited about being in the leading group, it’s been a while since I was there so I’m just going to enjoy it and see what happens.”
Behind Bailey lies Denmark’s Cecile Finne-Ipsen who is two shots behind on six-under-par.
Like Bailey, Finne-Ipsen had a strong start with a birdie on the first followed by three consecutive birdies on five, six and seven.
A further three birdies on the back nine and three bogeys total put the 24-year-old in a strong second position going into the final round.
Speaking about her round, Finne-Ipsen said: “I’m super happy, you never know what the day is going to bring but today was a good day.
“I started off well with a birdie and I just tried to go out there and hit one shot at a time. The putts just dropped today and suddenly, I’m four under par.”
“I’m super excited about being in the leading group, I’m honestly just going to do what I did today, take one shot at a time and it’s been a while since I’ve been up there.”
Denmark is currently dominating the leaderboards on LETAS and there has been four Danish wins this year.
This week, Finne-Ipsen is one of the only two Danes in the entries so is determined to represent her county and follow in the footsteps of her friends.
“I usually travel with a lot of the Danes on tour, but I have my mum with me today, so I’m super happy she is with me at these two events, and it’s been nice to have her here.
“I’ve been inspired my colleagues and we will see if I can get this next one.”
One shot behind Finne-Ipsen is England’s Hannah Screen on five-under-par after carding five birdies and only one bogey to blot her scorecard.
“I’m happy with my game today, I hit some pretty good approach shots and I really got my putter going on the back nine. Overall, I was happy with how consistent I was.”
After our golfers enjoyed sunny conditions in the morning, at two o’clock the weather turned, and the rain came down heavy for an hour.
“The weather started to turn but I just tried to stay focussed and stay present on every single shot and keep everything as dry as possible. I think I coped well.”
The 23-year-old has had a consistent season so far on LETAS having just missed out on the top 10 at the last two tournaments she played, coming 11th at the Montauban Ladies Open and 14th at the Vasteras Open by Elite Hotels.
“I’m excited about being in the leading group but I don’t want to get ahead of myself, I’m just going to play one hole at a time and see where I end up.”
The leaders will get their final round underway at 10:25am local time.
The cut fell at +6 with 52 players making it through to the Friday at Ramside.
