Written by Brendon Elliott

Using the Lesson Send feature offered within V1 PRO sometimes feels like the best kept secret in the industry. It is so easy to do it, doesn’t take any extra time or effort, and most importantly, my students love it.

We’re going to start from the beginning and walk through how to technically send lessons, so jump to the next section if you’re already an expert in this!

Topics I cover:

An Introduction to V1 GOLF

V1 GOLF is the leading swing analysis app for golfers for a reason. With the app you can:

RECORD AND ANALYZE

With the powerful, trusted, and easy to use drawing and editing tools in V1 GOLF, you can break down every inch of your swing.

MODELS

With hundreds of professional model swings, from PGA TOUR, LPGA Tour stars, and beyond, you can see how your technique compares. New models are added to the app regularly.

DRILLS

Right in the palm of your hand, great drills and content from some of the most trusted golf coaches in the game.

An Introduction to V1 PRO

V1 PRO offers a complete suite of tools for golf coaches to help their students improve faster. With three options, including a mobile version and a desktop version, there is something for all budgets and needs.

RECORD AND ANALYZE

Record and Analyze swings with industry leading analysis drawing tools, including special features not offered in V1 GOLF like angle measuring and Key Position tracking.

MODELS

Compare and Overlay to a previous swing or a pro model swing. Use the library included or add your own.

DRILLS

Deliver your drills straight to your students. Prerecord a library for easy sending or record a drill during a lesson and send it straight to that student.

PRESSURE

Use integrated ground pressure data for a visual interaction with the ground (optional).

Students: How to Receive, Store, and View Lessons in V1 GOLF

(It’s FREE!)

Receiving lessons from your coach is simple in the V1 GOLF app. Once you are logged into the V1 GOLF app, on the home screen you will see five sections:

  • V1 Featured – Drills, Models, Getting Started, and Premium Series
  • My Videos – Includes videos taken in app and videos imported from your camera roll
  • My Sessions – All the sessions you’ve taken videos in (sessions are videos organized automatically by date)
  • My Lessons – Lesson videos you’ve received from an instructor
  • Premium Series – Premium content for purchase.

In order to view the lessons you do in person with your coach, you will need to connect with them on the app. Make sure you use the same email address that you gave to your coach.

  1. From the home tab, click on the people icon, then click Select Academy and Coach. Use the Search bar at the top if you know the name of the coach or scroll the list to browse.
  2. Click on the name of the academy to open the list of instructors available. Click on the name of the coach to select them.
  3. The screen will reset and display that instructor as My Coach. If you need to select a different coach, repeat those steps.
  4. Alternatively, if your coach has a custom link or QR code from V1 Sports, you can use that to connect with them automatically.

You are now good to go! When a coach sends you your lesson, it will show up on the app under the My Lessons section. Your lessons will remain stored on the app in the My Lessons section so you can always refer back to them.

Coaches: How to Create & Send Lessons in the V1 PRO Mobile app

(No additional charge, it’s included in your subscription!)

For coaches, the process is easy in V1 PRO. First, you will want to upload a video to analyze.

1. Open your V1 PRO app.

2. Click on Students on the bottom selection panel.

3. Select your student. Once the student’s profile opens, click the Folder icon on the top right.

4. From there, you can either choose a video already listed, or click the Camera icon on the top right.

5. If you choose the Camera icon, it will open the V1 PRO camera. You can either shoot video of your student from that camera, or you can choose Import, located on the bottom right corner of the camera.

6. If you choose to import a video, your phone’s camera roll will open. Select a video to import from there.

7. Once your selected video uploads, you can shorten the clip as needed, once ready, hit Choose on the bottom right.

8. Your selected video is now in the V1 PRO analyzer.

9. In the analyzer, you can use the drawing tools by clicking the top right Tools icon (picture on right)

10. Also in the analyzer, you can use the additional tools, such as Overlay and Side By Side Compare (picture on left)

11. To start a lesson, and record your analysis, click the blue Start Lesson button. Once done, you will hit the blue End Lesson button.

12. From there, you will have a few options. You can either Review Lesson, Send Lesson Now, or Save to Outbox (Send Later). You can choose what best suits you at this point.

Coaches: The “Why” You Should Send Lessons to Your Students

There are numerous reasons why you should send follow-up lessons to your students. First and foremost, it shows professionalism. To become known as a respectable, trusted, and influential coach in your students’ eyes, doing this follow-up step in sending a lesson review will help you build your reputation.

Another reason why the video review step is necessary: it dramatically increases the retention of the concepts you are working on with your students. That retention leads to faster improvement, which is what it takes for you to enhance your reputation as a coach.

I could list out ten or fifteen more reasons why I send lessons, but I think one of the most important takeaways with this feature is that YOU can adapt it to how it serves YOU and YOUR students best. Maybe some students want all of their swings and all of their lessons because repetition helps them learn. Maybe some just want the highlights of what you worked on, or the preview of what you’ll work on next. Some may travel all the time so you do more long-form online lessons, and some may never travel so it’s a way to record what you worked on in person over time. Find the way that sending lessons fits into your business, and then use it consistently.

Coaches: What Makes a Good Post-Lesson Video Review?

Here are some key points to remember as you record your lesson:

  • Call the student by name – People instinctively reinstate more when they hear their name.
  • Speak clearly and slowly – Make sure the acoustics are good and remember to speak clearly in your voice over.
  • Use your drawing tools – That’s what they are there for, so use them!
  • Use additional tools – Use the overlay features, or side-by-side comparison to help drive points home. The Key Positions feature is helpful to lock in swing positions so you can move between key positions quickly. Show your students what success looks like.
  • Give them something to work on – Don’t just review; give them things to work on to help keep the improvement process moving forward.

Conclusion:

V1 PRO is one of the most simple and important teaching tools you can add for yourself, but when you start using the lesson delivery tools you’ll see how impactful that can be for your students. They’ll learn faster, have more confidence in your teaching, and in their investment in working with you because they’ll be able to SEE all of their progress. A minute or two today can build years of trust and rapport with your students.
