An area of the faiway was roped off to prevent access by trollies and buggies. My ball ball landed such that my swing was impeded by the rope. The posts were easily lifted. With no signs or instructions to the contrary I consided this to be a movable obstruction. I lifted several posts to drop the rope to the ground. Unfortunately the rope was so tight that it did not completely reach the ground still impeding my swing. Rather than remove more posts one of my playing partners stood on the rope to keep it on the ground allowing me to play the shot.
After completion of the hole another player insisted that I should be penalised for receiving assistance from another player. Is it permissable or not to hold a movable obstruction out of the way to enable a player to play his shot?
