Costa Navarino September 2023

0 40

Week One

Although most of the party had early flights to Greece, everyone was up for going out.  So we went into our favourite watering hole of Gialova for an excellent Italian meal.  The food was great and the view across the water there is beautiful.

Suitably refreshed and with a clinic behind us we set about the excellent Dunes course with and 2 out of 3 team competition.  A great day with some super golf and a four point swing on the very last hole to see the trio of Louise, Debra and Pam post 77 points pipping Barbara, Rebecca and Junaid by a point.

The next day found us at The Bay course with birthday girl Rebecca showing us all how to play with 35 points and then on the third day we followed up with a fun game at The Olympic course where DSG regular Maggie teamed up with newcomers Barbara and Ros to comfortably win the day on 76 points.

The day off was spent sailing, swimming and shopping with some lovely cocktails to round the day off.

A return visit to The Bay is always a good one, although there was a little rain in the air.  Fortunately by the time we teed off it was dry and we could enjoy this excellent test of golf.  We had a pairs competition today and the champs in the shape of Arnold and Junaid won with a stellar 44 points.

Our last day on The Dunes was a fun one and we had a terrific final evening in the very swish Amanode restaurant which has an excellent rating in Greece.  The great setting added to the impressive food and it was a splendid way to end our fabulous week.

Week Two

We started in glorious weather on The Dunes course and warmed up for our day with a short game session on their super academy.  No rustiness by any of the players and although the Gents in the shape of Arnold, Tony and David ran out winners it was close call.

Day two saw us head to what was forecast as a wet Bay course, however the weather gods smiled on us and we were given a splendid day with golf to match.  Ronnie, Jennie and Tony finished 14 under for their day, which was very good considering they were three over par after three holes!  A super days golf followed by a great dinner at a new venue for us in the small town of Marathopoli called Riki’s sitting right on the beach.  A great selection of starters, followed by some terrific main courses and also the opportunity to buy some lovely hand made products.

The visit the the Olympic never disappoints and really enjoyed the golf and the excellent views over the sea.  Ronnie, Catherine and Maggie accumulated an excellent 80 points which won the day.

A day off is always welcome, especially if it coincides with some excellent weather.  The group did a variety of exploring, sun worship, massage, swimming and the odd snooze too!

Back to The Bay for our penultimate game and once again blessed with an amazing day with sun and not a breath of wind.  With their mastery of the par 3s the quartet of Catherine, Kay, Karen and Tony ran out winners with an impressive 86 points for the day,

A really hot day for our final game at The Dunes.  This course always provides such an interesting challenge and glad to say the teams were up for it.  Arnie and Tony with 41 points were the best on the day.  We finished the trip with another super meal in the town of Gialova and already thinking about returning in 2023!

All the best
Barney
