Jon Drago, Problem Solver

At every big event, there is someone always there to help solve problems. The ATT Byron Nelson is lucky to have Jon Drago, Tournament Director. He always tries to find solutions while doing it with calmness and patience even when things are difficult. So Yuli, (another reporter) and I went to interview Jon Drago at headquarters to know more about how he does his job. We sat down and asked him questions about the struggles to make the tournament happen.
We were surprised to learn that it takes 2.5 months to build everything for the ATT Byron Nelson. Like building the floors, laying the carpeting, building the rest of the structure, and then adding the furniture. Jon told us one obstacle this April was the wind. After all the work people had to do to install it, carpet blew off six buildings. Jon had to find a way to buy more carpet but it wasn’t easy due to supply chain problems. But Jon found a way. He borrowed carpet from other events coming up. This showed us he had great determination to find the answers to other obstacles before the tournament even started.
Jon Drago always loved golf his whole life. Golf connects Jon to his dad since he played it with his dad as a kid and they made fond memories together. Even though Jon has to solve problems every year, his heart still has a strong foundation with his father through golf.
When we finished the interview, I thought it must be hard to solve every issue with such tolerance and patience. But I thought that it must be fun having a job connected with your favorite sport.
