Sports Briefs: Marin Catholic’s Ashforth among individual leaders at golf tournament
Boys golf
Marin Catholic fielded two squads for the 22-team Wildcat Invitational that included several Marin County teams. Truman Ashforth carded the second-lowest individual score at 72 to lead his Wildcat group to a 324. Theo Anderson came in a 74. The Marin Catholic “B” team finished at 386.
Low scorers for Redwood (321) were Arjun Aujla 74, Jack Mount 77 and Brody Root 81. Redwood finished sixth overall in the tournament, and registered MCAL victories over San Marin (321-345) and Marin Catholic (321-324).
Dom Moresco (82) and Bryce Duffin (86) led San Marin (345).
Ryan Herbst (73) and Charlie Ferrell (76) paced Branson to a 311 overall score. Sean Maden’s 79 led Terra Linda (329). Ben Friedman (77) set the pace for Tamalpais (334). Archie Williams totaled a 346 behind Drake Parrish Smith’s 80. Oliver Viking shot a 87 to lead Marin Academy (379).
De La Salle (296) won the tournament behind first-place individual finisher Jayden Dumdamaya (69).
Boys basketball
Marin Catholic announced via Twitter that Noah Deitch has committed to play for Lake Forrest College near Chicago next season.
Boys tennis
Redwood scored a 5-2 victory over Gunn to open the Bay Area Tennis Classic recently in Palo Alto. The Giants finished eighth in the 16-team field after they lost the next three matches against Peninsula-Palos Verdes (6-1), Amador Valley (5-2) and Mira Costa-Manhattan Beach (4-3).
