WICHITA, Kan. – Former Friends University track & field/cross country standout student-athlete Kayla Allen will remain on campus as the new Administrative/Sports Information Graduate Assistant Intern.

In her new position, Allen will be the game administrator for select home athletic events while also serving as the primary SID contact for cross country, competitive cheer, men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis.

"As an Athletic Department, we're excited to have someone like Kayla accept our new GA position," said Scott Moshier, Friends University Assistant AD of Operations. "She had a stellar athletic career here and we're happy to give her the opportunity to build on that on the administrative side of things."

Already having left her mark in the athletic arena, Allen capped her stellar four-year career at Friends with a third-place finish in the 5K Race Walk at the NAIA National Championship meet last month that netted her an All-America honor.

A winner of multiple individual event titles in the 3K and 5K Race Walk events, Allen contributed to four KCAC Indoor Track & Field championships and a pair of conference outdoor titles.

At this year's NAIA Indoor meet, Allen earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish in the 3K Race Walk as the Falcons posted a fourth-place finish, tying their best showing in program history.

Allen was also a part of the Falcons' 2019 KCAC championship cross country team.

The epitome of a solid student-athlete, Allen achieved both NAIA and KCAC Scholar Athlete status at Friends.

"I'm obviously familiar with Kayla in the athletic arena, but I was very impressed with her during the interview process," said Levi Convirs, Friends University Sports Information Director. "She already seems to have a firm grasp on what will be expected and I'm excited to see her continue to grow and thrive in this administration and SID position."

A Lewiston, Maine native, Allen will pursue a Master's of Science and Strategic Leadership degree.

"I'm really looking forward to taking on the role as the new GA, I think it'll be a great step for me and my future," Allen said.  "I'm excited to stay involved in Friends Athletics and getting to see the other side of it and the new opportunities that come with it."
