PEGOVA EXCITED TO RETURN TO BELGIUM

0 7

LET Access Series Order of Merit leader Nina Pegova is relishing the opportunity to return to Rinkven International Golf Club.

This week the third event on the 2021 LETAS calendar takes place as 77 players will battle it out over three rounds at the Golf Flanders LETAS Trophy.

Pegova is already a winner on LETAS having clinched the Viaplay Ladies Finnish Open title in 2019 and the Russian golfer has had a consistent start to the season.

The 27-year-old finished in second place at the season opener – the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge – and T9 at the Montauban Ladies Open.

Pegova played at Rinkven International Golf Club early in her career and despite the course having undergone some changes in that time, she is excited to be playing in Belgium again.

“I’m very happy with the way I started the season. I’m enjoying every tournament that I am playing in and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to play at all the tournaments,” Pegova said.

“It’s always a pleasure for me to come and play in Belgium. I have played on several courses here and where the tournament is this week, I played here at the beginning of my career. The course looks a little bit different, so it will be interesting to play on it in its new shape. I’m excited for the week ahead and I hope to play well.”

The top six players on the 2021 LETAS Order of Merit will earn membership of the LET for the 2022 season and the Russian star sits at the top of the standings after two events with 392.50 points.

In fourth place is German Verena Gimmy, who has also had a solid start to the season, with a T3 finish at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge and T44 at the Montauban Ladies Open.

Gimmy, who will play in her 20th LETAS event this week, believes her game is trending in the right direction and is hoping for another good finish.

“I am very happy with the start so far,” she said. “I have practiced a lot on my weaknesses over the last few weeks and feel like my game is headed in the right direction. The course looks really nice, and I am excited to play one more tournament before we have a break.

“My goal for this week is to stay focused and take it day by day, shot by shot. I have been playing nonstop for over seven weeks now and of course I would like to finish in a good position, but we will see what the next few days bring.”

There will be plenty of home interest this week too with 12 Belgians in the field including ten amateurs.

While 2019 PING Junior Solheim Cup players Lily May Humphreys and Alessia Nobilio, who both played for Team Europe, will also tee it up.
