In my opinion, since a ball has been found within three minutes, according to 18.2a (1) the reasonable time for its identification is that as long as a player, without delaying play, does not put a ball back into play according to the applicable rule, the original ball is always in play.
So, how do you define 'without delaying play' ?

My view is that if there is a spectator/referee/competitor close by with a device with which it could be easier and possible to identify that ball in the tree it is reasonable to wait for that person to provide the device. Reasonable does not mean 15 minutes but more like 1-2 minutes. Then using the device should not take more than one minute. After that the ball is lost.

I hate fiddling around and 78 players behind need to wait...
