Terrifying moment alligator creeps up on Collin Morikawa as he takes shot leaving commentators ‘twitchy’

GOLF COMMENTATORS were left ‘twitchy’ as an alligator crept up on 2020 PGA Championship winner Colin Morikawa.

The scary incident occurred at the RBC Championship in South Carolina, USA, on Sunday.

Colin Morikawa suffered a fright as an alligator lurked behind him on the 15th at the RBC Championship

Morikawa was on the 15th with a score of -11 that made him joint-eighth when he had to chip in from close to the water in front of a sign saying: “Please do not feed or disturb the alligators.”

That was when the cameras noticed an alligator submerge from just several metres away as the predator poked its eye out of the water.

One commentator admitted: “This would have me a little twitchy.

While another added: “I wouldn’t be standing there right now. As soon as I hit the ball I’m outta there.”

Morikawa sent his shot past the hole – with the commentator declaring ‘it needed a little more bite’ to it.

The star went on to finish in a tie for seventh at -12, well behind 47-year-old American Stewart Cink, who won the title by four strokes.

Cink came into the final round with a five-stroke lead and his two birdies and a bogey were enough to triumph.

It is not the first time that a golfer has got a little too close to a gator.

Terrified social media users have marvelled at the sheer size of an alligator caught on camera at Valencia Golf and Country Club, Florida.

Local Jeff Jones filmed the gigantic creature from his buggy, as it took a stroll around the course.

Back in March 2019, a nine-foot alligator gave golfers the fright of their lives after the enormous reptile casually strolled across the green.

The incident happened on the 17th green at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Georgia, US – with the gator immediately halting play before it went back into the pond.

And Rory McIlroy lined up to take a putt just YARDS from ‘a sleeping alligator’ in Florida in February.

And the Northern Irish star seemed to be completely unaware there was a reptile loitering close by.

McIlroy, 31, and his playing partners Justin Thomas and Max Homa were greeted by the animal on the eighth hole.

The trio were on the green on the 392-yard hole when the reptile was spotted with Thomas seemingly standing quite close to it.

There was no movement, though, and TV cameras moved away before viewers could see if it was real.

But later in the coverage Sergio Garcia landed an approach shot onto the eighth green when the reptile was seen again.
