[Men's Golf] THE BLUEJAY MENS GOLF TEAM MOVE UP THE LEADERBOARD AT SAND CREEK

0 12

Newton, Kan. - The men stayed close to home this week playing in the Bethany Invitational at Sand Creek Station.  The weather on Monday and Tuesday were similar at 50 degrees and a little wind making it hard on the players.  Bethany College won their own tournament with a 301, 299 making it three in a row for them. Tyler Junior College was close behind only nine shots back and the Bluejays finished 6th out of 7 teams.

Day one the Bluejays played shorthanded and it showed as they finished 7th on the day, 13 strokes behind Murray State CC.  Zach Gibson (JR/Andover, Kan.) led the team on Monday shooting a 78 while Logan Mathews (SO/Ada, Okla.) and Marco Espinal (FR/Cedar Creek, Texas) also played well for the Jays.  Tuesday was a moving day for the Bluejay Men since they were full strength making up all 13 strokes and more.  Matt Mowry (FR/Cimarron, Kan. ) who did not play Monday led the team with a 76 on day two sparking the bluejays rally flying past Murray State and taking 6th overall by two strokes. On the day the Bluejays also beat Jamestown University and were two behind Ottawa and 18 behind Bethany who are currently the Top KCAC team.

At the end of the tournament this is what coach Jamieson had to say. "I was proud of the way we battled back today. Marco is becoming a consistent top 3 player for us while Matt Mowry continues to improve and be the spark we need heading into next weeks finale. I really feel like we have the best group of five players we have had since we restarted the program and I expect us to play well next week in the last tournament of the year."

WHATS NEXT- The Bluejay Men's golf team will travel to Garden City on April 19 and 20 to play in the final Leg of Conference at Buffalo Dunes.  The team is currently in 7th place out of 9 teams and will look to move up the leaderboard.
