[Women's Golf] St. Ambrose places seventh at Bethel Pilot Invitational

A 19-shot improvement helped St. Ambrose maintain a seventh-place finish at the Bethel (Ind.) Pilot Spring Invitational, played at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind., Friday and Saturday.

After an opening-round 360, the Bees came back with a 341 to finish in the middle of the 14-team event with a 701.

Four of the five Bees posted better scores Saturday.

Becki Meils and Abi Scheidecker led St. Ambrose, each posting a top-30 finish. Meils fired an 83 Saturday to end with a 175, good for 29th. Scheidecker also carded a 175, after rounds of 90 and 85.

Sam Cramer had SAU's best round Friday, shooting an 86. She slipped to a 91 Saturday to end with a 177.

Maitlyn Sanders shot the team's best round of the tournament with her second-day 82. That came after a 98, which left her with a 180.

Kara Williams came in with scores of 92 and 91 to finish with a 183.

Host Bethel won the team title with a 633 (325-308). Bethel's Jessica Shurety was shot a 5-over 149 (74-75) to earn individual medalist honors.
