As does the R&A, there is an official ruling to this effect, affirming the wording of the MLR "the player may take free relief ONCE...". This is precisely the same answer as the situation where the player sits the ball up high on a juicy piece of grass, the ball is initially at rest and then rolls down into an inferior position. Tough luck, ball is in play and the MLR cannot be employed again.
Hi Thom
I would like to know, if possible, when the official ruling by R&A dates back and what the question was. This is to understand if it is before 2019, when the wording of the local rule on Preferred Lies was much clearer than now.
Thanks in advance ,
