First Tee Cleveland To Host ‘Grit, Gratitude & You’ Virtual Fundraiser
The 9th annual Grit, Gratitude & You fundraiser for First Tee – Cleveland is set for Friday, November 13 from 8:00-8:45 am. The theme of the non-profit organization’s first-ever virtual program is “Celebrate Golf!”
First Tee – Cleveland is one of 150 chapters of First Tee, a national initiative begun in 1997. First Tee’s mission is to positively impact the lives of local youth ages 6 to 18 by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
A celebration of the Cleveland chapter’s positive impact, the 45-minute long Grit, Gratitude & You program on Masters Friday will feature:
• Master Chef and avid golfer Zack Bruell creating the famous Pimento Cheese Sandwich – an iconic treat at The Masters. Nationally recognized, Zack is one of Cleveland’s most prolific restaurateurs with 12 locations in northeast Ohio.
• Notable guests in the world of golf including: Jim Nantz; Dottie Pepper; Jimmy Hanlin; mother-daughter team Sharon and Jillian Hollis of Rocky River (Jillian is currently on the LPGA Tour); PGA Tour’s Tyler Dennis; First Tee’s Senior Vice President of Network Relations Jennifer Weiler; native Clevelander Jamie Taylor LPGA; plus local golf pros, First Tee participants and alumni.
• Surprise guests and a special report from the Masters!
In addition, the Doris A. Evans, M.D. Merit Scholarship will be presented to First Tee participant Anjali Mishra, a senior at Aurora High School.
Tickets are $50; each registration includes a chance in First Tee’s Gratitude Raffle featuring cash and prizes worth more than $5,000. Proceeds from the event will enable First Tee – Cleveland to extend its reach to more local youth in need of social and emotional skills. Event chairs are Anna Lang, Heather Pauly Schmidt and Andrea Ward.

ABOUT First Tee – Cleveland
First Tee – Cleveland serves participants through green grass programs, in schools and through partnerships with other youth agencies. First Tee is not just about golf. In winter months, the chapter hosts a Fit To A Tee cooking class teaching culinary skills and creativity in the kitchen. The First Tee curriculum has a positive impact on participants’ grades, self-confidence and social responsibility. The organization’s main campus is located at Cleveland Metroparks’ Washington Golf Course in Newburgh Heights. The chapter also delivers programs at six other locations across Greater Cleveland.
