Benson Comes Down To The Last Hole
28 teams teed it up on Monday, September 21, at beautiful Dalhousie Golf Club for this year’s
Jim Benson Two Man Championship. The golf, the weather, and the course were all
spectacular!
In the Day One Fourball Competition, we had an Open Division playing about 6400 yards, and
featured both Gross and Net Competitions. We also had a Net Division Competition, playing
from about 6000 yards. The Open Division had 12 teams, and the Net Division fielding 16
teams.
In the Open Division on Day One, Skip Berkmeyer (Legends) and Pat Britt (Norwood Hills),
teamed up to shoot a blistering 7 under par 65 to lead the Gross Competition. Close behind
were the Dalhousie team of Drew Denton and Brevin Giebler, shooting 67. The reigning
champions from Sunset Hills, Matt Lewis and Steve Hyten, shot 68.
In the Open Division Net Competition on Day One, Old Hickory teams dominated the
competition, with Mark Keller and Jim Hennessey recorded a Net 66, and the team of Dan
Emrick and Jason Campbell shot 69, followed by Gary Hill and Kevin Simmons shooting 70.
Winghaven’s Didier Villard and Doug Hord ( Winghaven) also recorded a 70.
In the Net Division competition, an Old Hickory team again led the way, with Matt Nemnich and
Kevin Hundelt leading the way, shooting Net 66, while the Fox Run team of Mike Graven and
John Gerst shooting 67, along with Sunset Hills team of Jason Isringhausen and Brian Farmer,
and Westborough’s Steve Dioneda and Dick Estes.
Day Two featured Foursome play (Alternate Shot), truly testing the friendship of the partners!
Berkmeyer and Britt shot a two over 74, to capture the Overall Benson Championship with an
overall Two Day total of 139. Perennial competitors Lewis and Hyten also shot 74, but couldn’t
make up their Day One shortfall and finished Runners Up, with a two day total of 142. The
Dalhousie team of Denton and Giebler finished third, with a two day total of 143.
In the Open Division Net Competition, Keller and Hennessey held on to their lead, shooting a
Net 75 on Day Two, with a two day total of 141. the Whitmoor team of Kerry Morgan and Ken
Bruening shot 75 on Day Two, and combined with their Day One Net 72, were Runners Up at
147, with the Whitmoor team of Ryan Robertson and Brian Boehle finishing third, shooting Net
77 on Day Two, and Net 71 on Day One for a two day total of 148.
On Day Two in the Net Division, Old Hickory again prevailed, with the team of Dan Purdum and
Tim Schulte, shooting Net 67, combined with their Net 69 on Day One to capture the Net
Division competition with 136 for the two days. Fox Run’s Graven and Gerst shot 75 to finish
second with a two day total of 143, and the team of Norwood’s Clay Smith, partnering with
Brian Shaper from Old Hickory finished third with a two day total of 143.
