Sue Kahler, Pat Mayne tied for lead in NEWGA Championship

Former champions Sue Kahler of Ballston Spa and Pat Mayne of Western Turnpike each carded 78s Wednesday and share the lead halfway through the Northeastern Women's Golf Association Championship at Pinehaven Country Club.

Kahler, the defending champion, also won in 2007. Mayne was crowned in 2006, 2008 and 2010 and was runner-up last year.

Rachel Barlette of Shaker Ridge will begin the final round Thursday two shots behind the co-leaders. Anne Van Buren of the host club is alone in fourth.
