RD1 STARTING TIMES: 2020 Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Am

Almost 50 junior golfers will tee off Monday at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in the 13th edition of the Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur.

Golfers ranging from age 9 to 19 compete over two days beginning at the Amateur sponsor, Windmill Lakes Golf Club, and concluding play at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield on Tuesday.

Youths competing in the 13 to 15 age group and 16 to 19 age group, boys and girls, play 18 holes each day. Junior golfers ages 12 and under play nine holes each day at both Windmill Lakes and Sunny Hill.

Golfers from PTC County Division schools including Rootstown, Mogadore and Garfield compete against talented players from the greater Akron and Cleveland area.

Spectators are welcome but must social distance and remain in the rough, only helping juniors find a ball or help keep them hydrated during the hot days of summer. Masks will be available for spectators.

Juniors will be following COVID-19 Ohio state rules. Each junior will receive a scorecard with all three names from their pairing. They will keep all three scores, including themselves. Juniors will compare scores at the scoring table at the conclusion of play but not trade scorecards. Scores are given to the tournament director verbally and juniors may keep the scorecards.

Trophies and medals as well as gift certificates will be presented at the conclusion of each age group on Tuesday, outside at Sunny Hill Golf Course. Awards and medals will be sent to juniors not remaining at the course due to pandemic rules.

The Portage County Amateur committee is pleased to welcome some of the best golfers in the greater Portage County area to the Junior Amateur again this season.
