Golf club captain ‘carried out campaign of sexual assault against four women’
A GOLF club captain carried out a long-running campaign of sexual assault against four women, a court heard.
Malcolm Fawcett, 57, allegedly warmed his hands between a woman’s breasts and simulated sex while a victim was bent over, jurors were told.
His alleged assaults began while he was vice captain at Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, Durham, and got worse when he became captain.
But little was done when victims complained, prosecutor Philip Standfast said.
After his arrest, he was said to have told police he had a tactile relationship with the women.
Fawcett, of Framwellgate Moor, Durham, pleads not guilty to 11 charges of sexual assault.
Several of the allegations are said to have been witnessed by other people at the club.
Mr Standfast said that one worried victim told police she was afraid to complain because Fawcett was an “influential” man.
He said: “The defendant put his hand down the lady’s top, between her breasts, and then said something like his hands were cold.
“She was shocked and asked him what he was doing, the defendant replied by giggling and walking away.

“A few weeks after that the defendant came from behind her, put his arms around her midriff and rubbed his crotch against her bottom in a ‘dry humping’motion.
Five of the charges relate to one of Fawcett’s four alleged victims, whilst there are three against another, two charges for the third woman and one charge in connection with the final alleged victim.
The trial at Teesside crown court continues.
