The Brescia men's cross country team competed at the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on September 20, placing 20 out of 21.

The race, hosted at the Burke Golf Course at Notre Dame, was the young team's first 8k race of their collegiate career.

The Bearcats were led by Charlie McCallister (FR, Murray, Ky.) who opened up his season by running a 30:26 in the 8k. Benjamin Brown (FR, Memphis, Mich.) finished 17 seconds after McCallister, running a 30:43.

Jaylin Gildersleeve (FR, Clarksville, Tenn.) made his cross country debut and completed the race in 33:12. James Barrow (FR, Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Tyler Walz (FR, Hawesville, Ky.) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats and finished back-to-back.

Wes Wheatley (FR, Hawesville, Ky.) and Ethan Dooley (FR, Hopkinsville, Ky.) completed the top seven for the team, finishing within five spots of each other.

"Today was a new experience for all the guys. This is their first 8k and also our first large invitational with all divisions represented. It is a fun experience to come to Notre Dame and race with this caliber of competition. I expect there to be some significant drops in time for each of our athletes as they gain more experience as the season goes on," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.

The Bearcats will be back in action on October 5 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky at 11:00 a.m.
