Matthew Fitzpatrick shoots 6-under-par 64 to take Memphis lead
Matthew Fitzpatrick shot a 6-under-par 64 on Friday in the FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis to take a two-stroke lead at the World Golf Championships event.
Fitzpatrick moved to 9-under 131 at TPC Southwind. Billy Horschel (66), Patrick Cantlay (68), Cameron Smith (68) and first-round leader Jon Rahm (71) were tied for second.
• Mi Hyang Lee surged to a 4-under 67 to take a one-shot lead at 10-under 132 at the Evian Championship in Evian-les-bains, France, the LPGA Tour’s fourth major.
No. 1 Sung Hyun Park (66), seven-time major winner Inbee Park (68) and Hyo Joo Kim (64) were a shot back.
First-round leader Paula Creamer shot 76 and is tied for 25th at 2-under.
• Tom Hoge topped the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship leaderboard with 21 points when second-round play at Montreaux Golf and Country Club in Reno was suspended for the day after a long delay because of lightning and heavy rain.
Former Cal golfer Collin Morikawa was a point back in the modified Stableford event format.
• Wes Short Jr. shot his second straight 3-under 67 to take a one-shot lead over Scott Dunlap (68) at 6-under 134 after two rounds of the Senior British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in England.

Manuel wins 2nd straight world title
Simone Manuel won her second straight 100-meter freestyle title at the swimming world championships in Gwabgju, South Korea, on a day when three world records fell — the men’s 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke and the women’s 200 backstroke.
