Nolan Crowley ties for seventh at state golf championship

First-round co-leader Nolan Crowley, a senior from Saratoga Springs, settled for a seventh-place tie Monday as the New York State Public High School Athletic Association golf championship concluded at the Robert Trent Jones course in Ithaca.

Crowley, the Section II champion and Times Union's golf Athlete of the Year, carded an 8-over-par 79 Monday to finish 36 holes at 8-over 150.

The other first-round co-leader, senior Nathan Han of Somers (Section I), shot a 1-under 70 for a six-stroke victory. Han also won the state title two years ago.

Oneonta's Evan Sitts, who completes regularly on Northeastern New York PGA Junior Golf Tour events, was among three players tied for second.

A.J. Cavotta of Saratoga Springs and Paul Goetz of Shenendehowa were the next-best Section II golfers, tying for 16th at 13-over 155.

In the team competition, Section II moved up one spot, into sixth, from the first round. The top seven scores from each nine-player squad are used.
