Saratoga golfer tied for lead at state championship
Section II champion Nolan Crowley of Saratoga Springs shot an even-par 71 Sunday and is tied for the lead halfway through the New York Public High School Athletic Association golf championship at the Robert Trent Jones golf course in Ithaca.
Crowley, the Times Union golf Athlete of the Year for 2018-19, had five birdies and five bogeys. He shares the lead with former state champion Nathan Han of Somers (Section I).
Paul Goetz of Shenendehowa is the next-best Section II golfer, tied for 11th after a 5-over 76.
The 36-hole tournament concludes Monday.
In the team competition, Section II is seventh of 11 sections, but only five shots out of second.
