[Golf] Fecteau Named as Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach

St. Andrews University's Director of Athletics, Elizabeth Burris, has announced the appointment of Phil Fecteau as the new head Men's & Women's Golf Coach.

The newly named golf coach stated, "I have been coaching golfers my entire life and St Andrews University has given me a tremendous honor by selecting me to be their Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach. The opportunity to coach young people and watch them mature during their college years is something I truly enjoy. St. Andrews University is a great place to be a student athlete and I am happy to be part of this tradition."

Fecteau mentioned that his philosophy is simple, "Each golfer brings different strengths, thought patterns, weaknesses, and skills to the table so his coaching addresses each of them in a unique manner so that learning/improvement can occur. Improving one of those areas can help the golfer but also the person."

Coming from a successful golf career, Fecteau holds 4 course records with a low of 62 as a PGA Club Professional and has worked at various golf courses in the Pinehurst area as well as coaching for two years at Pfeiffer University. While working at Pfeiffer, the 2008 Women's team was ranked #6 in NCAA DII Golf and the 2009 Men's team earned All-Academic Team with a GPA of 3.54.

He has taught over 25,000 students in his career and was named the New England PGA Teacher of the Year in 1998 and nominated for New England PGA Junior Leader in 1997.

Fecteau, a native of Salem, Mass., holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Blackburn College, an NAIA institution in Illinois and received his Master's in Public Administration from the University of Idaho. While at Blackburn College, Fecteau was a dual sport athlete, where he played basketball and golf.

He now resides in Pinehurst, NC, where he is joined by his wife Jean. He and Jean have two daughters, Christina and Lisa, who reside in Virginia.
