2019 Rules Discussions •
I have never been satisfied with exactly where the line falls concerning penalty strokes incurred when playing a wrong ball (or provisional ball) that either do or do not count for score. The referenced Interpretation, in my opinion is also somewhat lacking in clarity. For example, in stroke play with my original ball embedded and hidden in a bunker, I play a wrong ball instead and in the process commit several Rules breaches to include a practice swing that touches the sand, accidentally ground my club behind the wrong ball, causing it to move, then play it from its new spot, or build a stance in preparing for the stroke.
Do any of you have some expanded material or authoritative guidance that might better define this issue?
Thanks
