[IWU] Wildcats in the NAIA Polls

MARION, Ind. – Six Indiana Wesleyan University athletic teams are currently ranked in NAIA Top-25 Coaches Polls. Men’s cross country leads the way with a No. 7 ranking while men’s golf and women’s golf are each ranked for the first time.


MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – No. 7

Indiana Wesleyan is a season-high No. 7 in the most recent national poll released on October 10. IWU was ranked No. 10 in the previous poll and moved up following a win at the Bethel Invitational over six ranked teams. Indiana Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan and competes against seven ranked opponents and four more receiving votes.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – No. 23

The Wildcats rank No. 23 in the coaches’ poll after a No. 25 ranking two weeks earlier. IWU finished fifth in the Bethel Invitational and only trailed ranked teams in the standings. All seven Wildcat runners crossed the finish line in under 19:44. IWU is back in action on Saturday at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan vs. six ranked teams and three receiving votes.

WOMEN’S SOCCER – Receiving votes

Indiana Wesleyan received votes in the latest NAIA poll released on October 16. The Wildcats are currently 9-5-1 which includes three losses to top-10 opponents. Indiana Wesleyan hosts Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. as the Wildcats host Bethel (Ind.) at the IWU Practice Field.

VOLLEYBALL – Receiving votes

IWU returned to the polls this week on the strength of a 10-match win streak leading up to the ranking. After a brutal schedule early in the season, Indiana Wesleyan has won 14 of their last 16 matches for a 16-11 record. The Wildcats travel to the Chicago region this weekend for matches at St. Xavier and Olivet Nazarene.

MEN’S GOLF – No. 21

Indiana Wesleyan cracks the top-25 in the first regular season poll. IWU won three of five tournaments this fall and placed in the top-three in the other two. The Wildcats finish their fall season next week at the Whistling Straights Intercollegiate Championship in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

WOMEN’S GOLF – No. 24

Indiana Wesleyan earns a national ranking for the first time with a No. 24 spot in the first regular season poll of 2018-19. IWU has been a top-three team in all six tournaments this fall. Indiana Wesleyan caps their successful fall portion of the schedule next week at the Whistling Straights Intercollegiate Championship in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
